This canvas is part of the group of portraits with similar characteristics that Romero de Torres executed between 1927 and 1928, called “good girls”, in which the face of a woman trapped in a neutral background becomes an object of representation.

It is not a commissioned work, but rather the author has selected the model, characterized by a popular beauty, far from the classical standards of beauty, although she is a representative of an archetype of a realistic woman typical of painting. social.

The protagonist of the composition is Asunción Boué, a model who already posed for the painter in other works: Cante Hondo (1924), Salomé (1926) and Naranjas y limones (1927).
