“The Nun” is an unfinished canvas dating from 1930. María Teresa López, a well-known model of the time, was the beauty who inspired the author to carry out this portrait. Romero the Torres worked several times with this model during his final period. The subject of this painting is the spiritual dedication of a young girl to the religion, one of the determining paths for the women at the time. It wouldn’t be the only time the painter portrayed the mystic and secular love.

In this portrait Romero de Torres depicted a young nun with a sweet and innocent expression. Her white wimple accentuates even more the “nunnery paleness”. The silent garden of the cloister appears in the background along with storm clouds.
