Romero de Torres painted this work of religious content in 1925. It shows the cut head of a woman in an oval tray made of Cordoba silver. The layout of this piece shows the direct influence of the Cordoban Baroque painting school, concretely the school of Juan Valdés Leal. Valés Leal painted a lot of Saint’s cut heads, but Romero de Torres followed the pattern an example from the principal altar of the Carmen Church in Córdoba. Obviously Romero de Torres was influenced by the works exhibited in the Museum of Fine Arts, which was directed by his father. Besides, the painter spent his childhood there. This work is one of the best examples that shows the mysticism with biblical inspiration used by Romero de Torres.
