It is a portrait of Félix de Huerta Calopa, a close friend of the artist, painted in 1928. The painting was donated to the Julio Romero de Torres Museum by the daughter of the man who ordered the portrait, Elena Huerta. It is a piece of a great compositional quality and expression. It was painted to distemper and oil.

José Félix de Huerta Calopa was magistrate of the Supreme Court of Spain and also Mayor of Alcalá de Henares during a short period of time. He studied law, was journalist and a great humanistic education.

In this composition the protagonist stands on the contour while he is writing a book. In the background, there is a window, through which we see the figures of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza riding in the distance. It is an homage to the hometown of José Félix de Huerta, the city of Alcalá de Henares.
