This small canvas is a sketch for Look how pretty she was!. The definitive work was presented at the National Exhibition of 1895 and awarded with an honorable mention. The title replicates one of the verses of a Soleá that narrates the sad popular event of the death of a girl that took place in the Santa Marina neighborhood:

The work follows the trends of the end of the 19th century by putting into practice Romero de Torres a loose brushstroke with the details of the figures not specified, the result of the development of the sketch technique. Regarding the theme, it falls within the realism that the painter practices at the moment, where he is interested in everyday, popular and social themes.

This sketch, compared to the final work, presents some modifications in the placement and presence of characters, in the treatment of light, maintaining a clearer palette. Finally, in the lower right corner there is a dedication to journalist José Navarro.
